Q. The Artma Virtual Patient® system helps the surgeon to navigate by augmented reality. The live video data is fused in real-time with virtual data structures. Can I see the virtual structures also?

You need the MedScan Viewer application. The data structures are computed on your local computer and fused with the video from the Internet.

Q. Where are these virtual structures generated?

These structures are defined by the physician in the pre-surgical simulation. The drawing parameters are contained in a small study file that is transmitted over the network, the actual graphic overlay is computed at your local computer.

Q. What computer system do I need to participate?

· Power Macintosh
· System software version 7.5 or newer (System 7.5.3 recommended)
· 32 Megabytes of memory
· Internet connection (for instance: Ethernet, T1, or 2-channel ISDN)
· TCP/IP software (MacTCP or OpenTransport)

Q. Where do I get the MedScan Viewer application?

Go to the download area.

The Artma Virtual Patient© System is now in use at leading clinical sites. At major medical conferences a live stereotactic data transmission of a surgical procedure is established. The attending physician can interactively participate in the surgical procedure.

Q. I am a physician and do not have the time to attend the conference. But I would like to follow the surgical procedure also with the display of stereotactic navigational data projected on medical imaging data like x-ray, computer tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Is this possible?

Yes, you need the MedScan Viewer application, the Medscan study file AND also the imaging data from this patient. It will be made available by the conference organizer or the clinic under the restrictions mandated by the legal requirements. You will be personally contacted where to download the data prior to the surgical procedure.
